THE GAUNTLET
13 June 2010
Our main objective with The Gauntlet was
to encourage cycling as an environmentally sustainable means of
transport within the city of Sydney. We believe that the primary means
of achieving a positive profile for the cycling community is through the
creation of memories and stories.
The
Gauntlet was an immersive aesthetic environment intended to generate an
intense engagement between the cyclists and their immediate landscape
and context.
By
travelling in response to the works of ten different artists as well as
negotiating the bike track, the cyclists participated in a complex and
yet supportive structure of necessities.
This
structure of necessities is required for the creation of memories and
stories that persist outside of the event itself and transform the way
in which the participants perceive the relationship between cycling and
the landscape of the city.
